Destinations For Abortion Tourism

In recent years, the phenomenon of abortion tourism has emerged as a significant issue in the global discourse on abortion and the right to life. Abortion tourism refers to the practice of individuals traveling from their home countries, where abortion laws may be restrictive, to other nations that offer more liberal access to abortion services.

Countries invested in protecting life often establish laws that make taking the life of the unborn more challenging and in some cases illegal.  Women seeking to bypass these protective measures, often seek abortion opportunities abroad. They travel to countries with more permissive laws allowing them to access these abortion procedures.

Turning to these countries often feels like a positive pathway to a difficult situation only later to discover the trauma, emotional distress and challenges that come with obtaining an abortion.

In a study by Frederica Matthews-Green, she found that 70% of women who had received an abortion did not have all the information they need to make an educated decision.  Similarly, 67% said they would not have pursued an abortion if . . “various reasons.”

Without quality life-affirming education and support, many women become victims to abortion.  Through our SOHL Packs and SOHL counseling programs, we equip the church and Christian community with the tools and insights necessary to help her choose life.
